Swanner Eco Center, Interpretive Naturalist
Overview
Swaner Naturalists act as the face of the organization by greeting and assisting guests, orienting visitors to the Preserve and EcoCenter, and helping them to engage in nature. By interpreting the natural world for guests, the ideal candidate will further Swaner’s mission to preserve the land and the human connection to the natural landscape, educate the local and broader communities about the value of nature, and nurture both the ecosystem and the people connected with it. Naturalists engage guests, answer questions, lead Preserve tours, facilitate interpretive nature programs for guests, and attend to the general upkeep and enrichment of the EcoCenter and exhibits. They will also help with traveling exhibits hosted in the space, special events, and youth education as needed.
In addition to defined job duties, naturalists have the opportunity to assist with conservation projects on the Preserve, participate in a Utah Master Naturalist Course, and receive additional naturalist training.
This position is part-time (15-20 hrs/week), will take place predominately on weekends, and reports to the Visitor Experience and Exhibit Manager. If you are interested in this position, please submit an application by May 13, 2022.

Responsibilities

Summit Community Gardens, Youth Education Coordinator
Organization and Job Description
Summit Community Gardens (SCG) is a non-profit organization that operates a 1.5-acre community garden in Park City, centrally located just off Old Ranch Road at 4056 Shadow Mountain Drive in Park City Utah. Our mission is Empowering our community to gather and garden at high altitude. We achieve our mission by offering gardening education, garden plot rentals, and community events for all to attend.
The Youth Education Coordinators are primarily responsible for developing and expanding the youth education programs, including our after school program, summer camps, and outreach education. The Youth Education Coordinators will be expected to be onsite for all youth camps and activities or have recruited, trained, and approved another instructor in their place. Summit Community Garden is hiring two Youth Education Coordinators.
The position requires strong leadership skills, self-motivation, and a passion for teaching youth about gardening, environment, natural earth cycles. Through this position, the UCC AmeriCorps members will have the opportunity to learn about organic farming practice, outdoor education, sustainable food production, and professional non-profit work through hands-on experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Educational Leadership
- Develop engaging curriculum for youth education programs
- Create an inclusive community where kids can learn about gardening and the environment
- Collaborate with partner organizations to develop joint summer camp opportunities

A School and Community Outreach Instructor is directly responsible for delivering engaging, accurate, and high-energy informal science education programs to 2nd-grade students throughout the state. Position Summary
We are looking for individuals interested in working as educators in a hands-on, outdoor setting to implement our nine-week Summer Camp program. YGP Summer Camp provides much-needed hands-on, high-quality child care for 1st – 6th graders during the summer break. Primary Responsilbites
- Four instructors will work as a cohesive team to run our nine-week Summer Camp program.
- Instructors will receive an in-depth training prior to leading camp on working with kids of different age groups in an outdoor setting.
- All instructors will plan, organize, and lead Summer Camp with guidance and support from the Youth Programs Director. Daily Summer Camp responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Ensure overall smoothness of the Summer Camp day including safety of campers
o Prepare materials for activities and snacks

o Teach two-three activities per day with co-instructors and facilitate free play
o Encourage campers to learn, have fun, and connect with the garden

Position Summary
The Youth Garden Project (YGP) is a non-profit organization located in the red rock country of Moab, UT. Our mission is to cultivate healthy children, families, and community through educational programs and connecting people with food from seed to table. We are looking for individuals interested in working as an educator in a hands-on, outdoor setting within a variety of our elementary educational programs. In the spring, we host two After-School Programs, lead Garden Classroom Field Trips, and run a weeklong Spring Break Camp—all of which will be facilitated primarily by two instructors. During the summer, four instructors collaborate to implement our nine-week Summer Camp program.
Primary Responsilbites
SPRING
- Plan and lead activities for two After-School Programs.
- Develop and facilitate garden-based activities for Spring Break Camp.
- Teach Garden Classroom Field Trips for all Grand County students (Preschool-6th grades) using YGP’s curriculum.

SUMMER

- Interns will work 35 hours per week on average during the spring (schedule varies) and 45 hours per week on average during the summer (M-F, 8am-5pm). The majority of the work day, especially during the summer season, is spent working directly with kids.

- YGP is involved in a series of local community events and fundraisers that interns will be required to work or attend outside of the normal work day, such as the annual Plant Sale Fundraiser.

Wasatch Community Gardens, Job Training Program Director
Position Summary
By leveraging the therapeutic environment of the Green Phoenix Farm, the Job Training Program (JTP) serves os a model for using gardens and farms to develop connection, social capital, and self-sufficiency among at-risk populations.
The JTP Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the oversight of this program and the effective implementation of all aspects of the program model. This oversight includes program management, planning, and administration coordinator with the Green Pheonix Farm Director. The JTP Director is also responsible for facilitating the development, coordination, and implementation of job skills training, placement, and ongoing support to program participants, supporting successful work experiences and long-term employment.

● Research community economic demands and determine specific industry for training
● Secure training entity/individual trainer and establish MOU
● Develop a working knowledge of social service programs and community resources available to

STOKES NATURE CENTER Naturalist Educator
Position Summary
The Allen and Alice Stokes Nature Center’s Naturalist Educator-School Programs is an energetic and creative educator that plans, develops, and implements a variety of formal and nonformal environmental education programs for a range of audiences. These programs include primarily school programs and outreach events, and also summer camps, special events, and programs through the Logan Canyon Children’s Forest USDA/USFS partnership and community programs as needed. The Naturalist Educator helps meet SNC’s mission by providing opportunities for students to learn about the natural world and develop a curiosity which can evolve into stewardship of our local environment. The Naturalist Educator provides visitor services to the public in the form of representing SNC at outreach events and hosting at SNC’s Nature Center facility as needed. The Naturalist Educator’s primary location of work is in SNC’s Administrative Office in Providence, UT, with programs operating primarily out of the Nature Center facility, Nibley Nature Park, in local schools, as well as throughout Logan Canyon and the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
Primary Responsibilities
- Organize, present, and evaluate school programs and outreach events as scheduled to a variety of audiences.
- Maintain school program design and alignment to Utah State SEEd Standards for grades K-6. Continue field testing as necessary and revise when needed.
- Proactively promote, market, and schedule school programs and outreach events.
- Attend and participate in the Stokes Nature Center Education Department professional development program.
- Work SNC’s Summer Camp programs each summer.
- Assist with community programs and Logan Canyon Children’s Forest programs as needed. ● Host at SNC’s Nature Center facility as needed. Interact with visitors, answer questions, and maintain facilities.
- Substitute teach with SNC’s Nature Preschool as needed.
- Work Special Events as needed or assigned.
- Recruit and coordinate with volunteers to assist with programming as required.
- Maintain a professional atmosphere and act as a role model and support for Naturalist Volunteers/Interns, providing appropriate guidance when necessary.
- Exhibit positive and professional communication with students, parents, and staff.
- Be knowledgeable of SNC’s program offerings, natural history of the local area, and of SNC as an organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, weekdays, some evenings and holidays. ● Professional proficiency with computers, including Google Suite software.
- Ability to pass comprehensive state and federal background checks.
- Hold a current and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid, or higher, medical certification or willingness to earn certification prior to employment.
- Ability and willingness to meet the physical demands of the position (i.e., hike up to 5 miles over rugged terrain per day, bending, kneeling, lift >50 pounds, teach outdoors in all weather and temperatures, including winter).
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in education, natural resources, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Prior experience teaching in K-12 school settings
- Experience writing, revising and implementing original curricula aligned to Utah State SEEd Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

WASATCH MOUNTAIN INSTITUTE VISTA position
This full-time, one-year AmeriCorps VISTA service position is hosted by the Public & School Partnership (PSP) and is based with Wasatch Mountain Institute in Wasatch County, UT. The goal of this VISTA position is to develop the capacity of the Wasatch Mountain Institute (WMI) and to build the foundation for sustainable funding and programming. 2022 Environmental Education Assistant (450-hour Utah Conservation Corps term) Friends of the Great Salt Lake
Environmental Educator - Summer 2022 Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter
Compensation: starting at $13/ hour, commensurate with experience
Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter is seeking educators to act as camp leads during Summer Camp 2022 (May through August). Educators will lead and assist in a wide variety of educational programs that take place both on the Swaner Preserve and in the EcoCenter. Educators will utilize experiential, inquiry, and place-based pedagogy to provide meaningful nature-based camp experiences to youth entering Kindergarten through 8th grades in half-day and full-day week-long camps. Duties will include:
- Assist in developing, planning, and leading summer camp programs at Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter.
- Develop camp curriculum and supporting educational materials
- Act as lead instructor (or co-lead) during camps, managing 12 to 16 campers each week
- Oversee 2-5 high school counselors each week and provide meaningful feedback and mentorship
- Provide campers with high quality environmental and STEM education programs, including outdoor exploration, design challenges, art projects, etc.
- Communicate daily camp happenings to campers' guardians and to Camp Director
- Work collaboratively with a team of 2 staff, 5 educators, and up to 35 high school counselors to create a positive and safe camp/work environment for the duration of camp programs
Candidates must have a positive attitude, open to learning, work well as part of a team, and enjoy working outdoors in a variety of environments and weather conditions. Candidates must be professional in interactions with youth participants, adult guardians, staff, volunteers, and the public as a representative of USU Extension and the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter.
During the term of this position, educators will experience many aspects of environmental education and nonprofit work, making this an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate who desires the opportunity to explore informal education or refine their interests in the education or non-profit fields.
- Educators will gain hands-on experience in implementation of informal education programs, including program planning and delivery. Educators will also develop classroom management skills and a deeper understanding of inquiry-based pedagogy, enabling themselves to effectively communicate and teach youth in a variety of settings. Additionally, educators will learn about non profit organizations and management, the day-to-day operations of a community center, and the many facets of USU Extension work.

2022 Recycling Event Coordinator (Remote, Contracted) REDO
REDO, Recycling Education and Development Organization, is seeking a passionate and driven individual who wishes to gain skills in environmental outreach and education. This position’s primary role will be to coordinate and implement recycling services at public events (fairs, concerts, etc.) in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas. This is a contract position paying $5,000 at job completion.
REDO’s mission is to educate communities to recycle right. In Utah, an average of 20-30% of residential recycling is disposed of at the landfill. This is due to the public contaminating their recycling with non-recyclable materials, such as food items and soft plastics. The Recycling Event Coordinator will educate the public about how to recycle right by planning and executing a recycling strategy for local community events along with managing REDO’s social media presence. The ideal candidate will have skills in marketing and outreach. The Recycling Event Coordinator will have the opportunity to build and create their own project with a focus of recycling services at public events. This remote position reports to REDO’s Board President via Zoom. Attending events in person on weekends and potential Salt Lake based meetings is required. Position Description: The Utah Society for Environmental Education is seeking a videographer to assist in the filming and editing of 10-15 short videos, no more than 5 minutes in length, to highlight Project Learning Tree, one of our flagship programs.
This is a part-time, contract position. We would like to have this project completed by December 2021.
Who We Are: The Utah Society for Environmental Education, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the Utah Affiliate of the North American Association for Environmental Education. We promote excellence in environmental education and community engagement to connect all Utahns to their natural world.
What You’ll Do: Provide your skills and technical expertise to create video content for USEE. We are looking to develop 10-15 short videos that can be posted on our website, YouTube and Instagram, and shared during virtual workshops, to highlight one of our flagship educational programs. This will likely include an overview video, an explainer on learning outdoors, 5-7 Project Learning Tree activities and 1-2 testimonials.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with USEE’s Executive Director and Program Coordinator to review scripts
- Provide assistance with scouting filming locations
- Filming videos and editing them to include graphics where needed, adhering to USEE’s brand guidelines
