Other Services for Educators

To ensure USEE staff understand the dilemmas faced by those providing environmental education in the field, we "keep our hands dirty" by working with students and teachers. In other words, we walk our talk by facilitating activities for students and teachers as well as by serving on leadership teams for teacher training workshops.

Annual EE Awards Program
Each year USEE recognizes those who have made significant contributions to environmental education in Utah. The EE Awards are announced at a banquet that is held in conjunction with the Annual Utah EE Conference.

Annual Utah EE Conference
USEE's Annual Utah EE Conference provides educators with an opportunity to improve their skills, discover materials and resources, and network with others interested in environmental education from throughout the state of Utah.

Burning Issues Workshops
USEE received a grant from PLT (Project Learning Tree) to conduct workshops in the training of the interactive CD-ROM Burning Issues produced by the BLM. The focus of the CD is on Fire Education. For more information please email info@usee.org

Environmental Education Certification Program
The Utah Environmental Education Certification Program establishes high standards for the professional qualifications of environmental educators in Utah. For more information on this program view our certification page.

Great Basin Earth Institute
The Great Basin Earth Institute's (GBEI) mission is to enable individuals to examine their values and habits, and take responsibility for the Earth. GBEI reaches an adult audience by offering discussion courses on Deep Ecology, Voluntary Simplicity, Choices for Sustainable Living, and Sense of Place. GBEI endorses a method of learning consistent with EE. USEE serves as a host for this program.

On-Line EE Database
USEE received a grant from the US Forest Service to develop an on-line searchable EE Database for the state of Utah. It is open to the public. Organizations/programs can request to be put on the database. Continued support for this project was provided by the George S & Dolores D Eccles Foundation.

Project Learning Tree
Project Learning Tree is an award-winning environmental education program designed for teachers and other educators, parents, and community leaders working with youth from preschool through grade 12. PLT uses the forest as a "window" on the world to increase students' understanding of our environment; stimulate students' critical and creative thinking; develop students' ability to make informed decisions on environmental issues; and instill in students the commitment to take responsible action on behalf of the environment. For more information, contact Andree' Walker at (801) 328-1549 or andree@usee.org.

Teacher Network
The Teacher Network (T-Net) is a free service provided to educators. It provides information regarding resources, opportunities, grants, and awards. T-Net is also used by EE providers to disseminate their information to educators.

The WEB
The WEB is USEE's semi-annual newsletter. It keeps Utahns informed about environmental issues, Utah News, National News, and upcoming environmental education events. It is one way USEE uses to keep members and others informed about USEE as well as the latest news & events in the field of Environmental Education.

USEE Program Advisory Council
The USEE Program Advisory Council (USEE PAC) meets twice annually to share information among members of Utah's EE community. The USEE PAC will also establish goals and priorities for activities that need to be accomplished in Utah as well as identify challenges to EE in the state of Utah.
