Our Vision: To cultivate ecological knowledge to build environmental consciousness that ensures economic, social, and environmental sustainability for Utah.
What is USEE?
The Utah Society for Environmental Education (USEE) is a non-profit 501(c)3, membership organization that provides professional development opportunities and support services to environmental education providers, as well as, continuing education programs for the community. Since its inception in 1981, USEE has acted as a link between environmental education efforts in Utah and those occurring nationally as the Utah affiliate of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). USEE has been recognized through numerous awards from both state and federal agencies including the Organization Award from the Utah Association for Adult, Community and Continuing Education, the National Environmental Education Achievement Award from the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation, the Environmental Achievement Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Conservation Education Outstanding Achievement Award from the US Forest Service.
Professionalizing the Field of Environmental Education
USEE helps educators and programs achieve a level of professionalism in the field of environmental education by establishing standards of knowledge, skills, experience, and conduct to ensure quality and effective environmental education practices. In addition, USEE provides professional development and networking opportunities for educators to strengthen the environmental education community statewide. These goals are accomplished with the following programs:
Supporting Educators in Utah
USEE recognizes that teachers and non-formal educators are crucial in teaching both youth and adults about human interactions with our environment. Quality environmental education programs promote critical thinking skills by using an unbiased approach to help people learn how to think, not what to think. USEE works to ensure that lesson plans demonstrate quality and effective environmental education. Programs and services for educators include:
